"There is no doubt that the driving motivation
for the war on carbon and particularly the war on coal and oil and gas
(and it's justified on this chimera of global warming)
is driven by people who see this as their one great opportunity
to introduce a worldwide tax on something which will fund
all their dreams of a great beneficial world government
which will control every pesky human on the face of the Earth."

DEFENDING CO2, OIL, GAS & COAL

"These people are not interested in democracy,
they're not interested in freedom,
they're not interested in private property.
They're interested in a suffocating world bureaucracy
funded by a tax on the most fundamental thing that keeps the human race
in its current state of prosperity and ease and affluence
which is energy.
And if they can think of something to scare the people
in order to allow them to grab this carbon tax
that's what they're going to do."

Over the years on ORWELL TODAY I've written and posted many articles attempting to expose the greatest hoax ever perpetrated on mankind -- the villification of carbon dioxide (CO2) and the attack on North America's economy through its energy resources -- coal, oil, gas and nuclear -- in preparation for their takeover and use by enemy nations like Communist China.

Then this week [August 2015] I heard a fascinating internet talk-radio program with Patrick Timpone interviewing a biosphere expert from Australia whose topic was "defending the role of carbon on Earth and exposing the real agenda behind the 'green elite'".

listen Defending the Role of Carbon on Earth interview

CarbonSenseForbes

Patrick introduced his guest, Viv Forbes as a geologist, financial analyst and farmer with a degree in Applied Science (geology, physics, chemistry and maths). Since graduation he has studied economics, politics, climatology, soil science, financial analysis, grazing management, hydrology and animal nutrition. He has worked for government departments, private companies and his own business. He has written widely on political, technical and economic subjects. He was awarded the "Australian Adam Smith Award for Services to the Free Society" in 1988, and was chosen as Friedrich Naumann Foundation's "Author of Freedom" in September 2012. He should be retired but is a non-executive director of a small Australian coal exploration company and lives with his wife Judy on their sheep and cattle breeding property at Rosevale in Queensland, Australia. He was the founder of the Carbon Sense Coalition.

Listening to Viv Forbes explain in his calm, soothing voice I was able, for the first time, to truly understand the connection between CO2 and oil, gas and coal. It turns out that it's true -- burning carbon fuels emits tons of CO2 into the atmosphere out the smoke stack of modern, high-standard power stations. And there's nothing that can be done to reduce CO2 emissions -- it's part of the process. But that's a GOOD thing because CO2 is GOOD for the environment, not BAD. Carbon dioxide is there in such huge quantities because, for example, burning a ton of coal releases ten tons of gas out the stack, 20% of which is CO2 along with 70% nitrogen and 10% water vapour -- all that's left after harmful gases and particles have been filtered out.

Quoting Viv Forbes directly from the interview
(as does the header at the top of the page):

"...What the EPA is doing in coal (and the reason they are using to kill coal) is they are trying to limit carbon dioxide and you certainly cannot. A good, clean coal-fired power station today produces from every ton of coal, about three tons of carbon dioxide and there is nothing you can do about that. That is what the process is.

"And therefore in the exhaust products of coal they have back houses to catch all the dust. They have electro-static precipitators to precipitate the fine material; they have filters to catch any other chemical things. But what comes out -- for every ton of coal that comes out -- there is about ten tons of gaseous products that come up the stack. And of those products 70% of it is nitrogen, plain old nitrogen, a most essential plant food for every bit of protein in the world; 20% is carbon dioxide. And that's the one that they fuss about. That's what the EPA is trying to limit. They're trying to limit carbon dioxide because they know it's not possible to limit the emission of carbon dioxide from burning coal. That's what coal does when you burn it. It produces carbon dioxide. Another nearly ten percent is water, water vapour.

"So 70% is nitrogen, a plant food; another 20% is carbon dioxide, the most essential food for all green plants; and water, essential for all life on Earth. And the rest is the stuff that was in the air. Alot of what comes up the stack of a coal-fired power station is what went in, to burn, in the air -- things like argon, which is in the air originally. And there is ash -- ash products are produced. Once upon a time there was no catching of what they call flue ash, which is very fine ash, like you'd get off a bush fire or an open air cremation -- a fine ash which is quite dangerous to breathe. But modern power stations collect that fine ash and in fact use it to make cement. So there is nothing dangerous or deleterious to health. In fact it's all very beneficial to life and particularly plant life -- nitrogen for protein -- carbon dioxide for every green plant which supports every animal -- and water vapour...."

~ end quoting interview ~

But the fact that CO2 is good, not bad, didn't stop the diabolical brains behind the so-called "environmentalists" or "greens" (who gave themselves those names implying they're the only ones caring for the environment or God's green earth) from Orwellianly labelling CO2 as BAD -- a pollutant -- so they could charge money -- a carbon tax -- penalizing anything and everything that emits CO2 -- including industry and human beings and animals when breathing.

And, as Viv Forbes pointed out, there is NO global warming. The globe is NOT warming.

Here's the excerpt from the interview:

Patrick Timpone: "...And it's moving forward isn't it. I mean, we hear the term "global warming" now on some media, lots of media, like it's just a fait accomplis, like it just is; we all know it exists; we all know that it's a problem and, you know, they talk about it like it's just science, like it's real."

Viv Forbes: "It's amazing that we can still talk about global warming after 19 years of no global warming. The Earth has not risen in temperature for 19 years. How much longer...This greenhouse effect, there's no delaying it. If additional carbon dioxide is added to the atmosphere tomorrow it will start affecting the rays of the sun TOMORROW, not in 19 years time...."

~ end quoting interview ~

The entire time I was listening to Viv Forbes talking I was wishing that when school starts next week here in North America it would be required listening for every child from elementary school upwards. That way they could hear the truth -- instead of being force-fed THE CONVENIENT LIE by guru Gore and his one-world-government masters in the green elite.

I'm posting the link to the highly educational and interesting 2-hour interview in the hope that readers will listen and learn and then pass on the truth about carbon dioxide -- CO2 -- to everyone they know.

What is Oil Sands? (Alberta's oil reserves play an important role in the Canadian and global economy, supplying stable, reliable energy to the world. Alberta's oil sands have been described by Time Magazine as "Canada's greatest buried energy treasure". But what is oil sand exactly? Oil sand is a naturally occurring mixture of sand, clay or other minerals, water and bitumen, which is a heavy and extremely viscous oil that must be treated before it can be used by refineries to produce usable fuels such as gasoline and diesel. Bitumen is so viscous that at room temperature it acts much like cold molasses. New technologies are increasing the treatment methods available to oil sands producers as more research is completed. Oil sand can be found in several locations around the globe, including Venezuela, the United States and Russia, but the Athabasca deposit in Alberta is the largest, most developed and utilizes the most technologically advanced production processes. Historically, oil sand was incorrectly referred to as tar sand due to the now outdated and largely ineffective practice of using it for roofing and paving tar (oil sand will not harden suitably for these purposes). Though they appear to be visibly similar, tar and oil sands are different. Oil sand is a naturally occurring petrochemical that can be upgraded into crude oil and other petroleum products. Tar is synthetically produced from coal, wood, petroleum or peat through destructive distillation, it is generally used to seal against moisture.)

FiresEmitCarton Canada's wildfires emitted equivalent CO2 of 647-million cars last year, News, June 2024
Canada's forest fires in 2023 were a major emitter of global CO2 -- more than the burning of fossil fuel in most countries. Only the three largest countries, China, India and the US, did individually put out more CO2 than the Canadian wildfires in 2023. Canada's 2023 wildfires caused billions of dollars in property damage, prompted large scale evacuations and caused toxic air pollution that reached as far as Europe and China. A new analysis shows that the wildfires also had a large effect on greenhouse gas emissions world wide. At 647 megatonnes, the carbon released in last year's wildfires exceeded those of seven of the ten largest national emitters in 2022. The carbon emitted by fires in Canada was far outside the previous record. Emissions from wildfires are not taken into account by countries as they strive to reach their Paris Agreement targets to keep temperatures from rising more than 1.5 C above pre-industrial levels. "If our goal is really to limit the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, we need to make adaptations into how much carbon we are allowed to emit through our economy, corresponding to how much carbon is being absorbed or not absorbed by forests...

CoalExportChina Coal for Canucks bad; good for Commie Chinks (Canada-USA CO2 coal fuels enemy China power), Canadian Press, March 29, 2024
Canadian exports of thermal coal increased another 7% last year, reaching the highest level in almost a decade. The boom in exports of the kind of coal burned to make electricity comes as Canada leads a charge to end the use of coal as a source of power worldwide, including at home. The Liberals [mandated] 3 years ago that all thermal coal exports will stop from Canada by 2030, but exports have risen almost 20% since then. Statistics published this month by the ports of Vancouver & Prince Rupert show 19.5 million tonnes of thermal coal were exported through their terminals last year. That's up from 18 million tonnes in 2022 and is twice the amount Canada exported in 2015 when the Liberals took power. In 2022 more than half Canada's exports were coal produced in the USA, mainly Wyoming and Montana, that is shipped by rail to Vancouver and then across the Pacific. Most USA west coast ports won't allow thermal coal exports anymore... Coal produces almost twice the amount of carbon dioxide when burned as natural gas to make the same amount of energy.... China accounts for more than half the world's use of thermal coal, and India almost 15%.... Canada and the United Kingdom launched the global Powering Past Coal Alliance 7 years ago to encourage all countries to cut back on the use of coal as a source of power. Canada's domestic use of coal power has fallen dramatically, helped by Ontario's decision to close all its coal power plants. The last one in that province closed in 2014. Alberta's last two coal plants are transitioning to natural gas this year. Saskatchewan, New Brunswick & Nova Scotia are the only other provinces with significant reliance on coal, but regulations require them to close them, transition them to gas, or equip them with emissions capture technology by 2030. Despite all that Canada continues to ship coal overseas. When the Liberals brought in the effective ban on burning coal domestically, the idea was that the coal mines that were supplying those plants would be shuttered and eventually that industry would transition. Since that time domestic production of coal has skyrocketed threefold. Almost all of the thermal coal Canada produces comes from coal mines in Alberta and is exported, mainly to Asia, from ports in B.C.

Climate has become religion for the global left. Yet unlike most organized religions that are genuinely committed to helping our fellow man, today's climate movement figuratively burns heretics at the stake and demands communal sacrifices that serve no purpose but to immiserate humanity. Consider the calls at the United Nations's COP28 climate confab this month in Dubai to reduce meat consumption. Banishing fossil fuels and gasoline-powered cars isn't enough to achieve the climate lobby's net-zero promised land. Now people must give up their rib-eye steaks and pepperoni pizza. This crusade to stamp out meat is gaining force. A U.N. report last year held that about 7 gigatons of CO2 reductions -- about as much emissions generated from global natural-gas combustion --would have to come from people eating less meat. Livestock production accounts for about 11% to 17% of global greenhouse-gas emissions and about 32% of the world's methane, which is 28 times as potent as carbon dioxide. Pound for pound of protein, beef production generates nearly 18 times as much greenhouse gas -- and pork, four times as much as tofu. Blame cow burps and manure. Methane is the natural byproduct of cow digestion. Each cow emits as much carbon in a year as a gasoline-powered car. Unlike cars, however, cows can't be engineered to become more "fuel efficient"... But make no mistake: The climate religion's ultimate goal isn't to reduce carbon emissions or stop global warming. It is to force people to give up material joys and live as ascetics. Today's climate clergy are like the wanton, well-dressed friar in Geoffrey Chaucer's "The Canterbury Tales", ostensibly begging for the poor while living sumptuously. They want to have their meat and eat it too.

Obama Kept His Promise, 83,000 Coal Jobs Lost And 400 Mines Shuttered, by Andrew Follett, Energy and Environmental Reporter. Dailly Caller, Sep 5, 2016
This Labor Day, America has 83,000 fewer coal jobs and 400 coal mines than it did when Barack Obama was elected in 2008, showing that the president has followed through on his pledge to "bankrupt" the coal industry. A 2015 study found the coal industry lost 50,000 jobs from 2008 to 2012 during Obama's first term. During Obama's second term, the industry employment in coal mining has fallen by another 33,300 jobs, 10,900 of which occurred in the last year alone, according to federal data. Currently, coal mining employs 69,460 Americans, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Much of the blame for the job losses is targeted at federal regulations aimed at preventing global warming, which caused coal power plants to go bankrupt, resulting in a sharp decline in the price of coal. "So if somebody wants to build a coal-powered plant, they can; it's just that it will bankrupt them, because they're going to be charged a huge sum for all that greenhouse gas that's being emitted", Obama said during a 2008 interview with the San Francisco Chronicle's editorial board. Democratic Presidential nominee Hillary Clinton also pledged that "We're going to put a lot of coal miners and coal companies out of business". Employment has fallen so drastically because coal production has fallen by 15 percent since 2008 as companies have been forced by environmental regulation to shut down 400 mines due to decreasing demand. Companies opened 103 new mines in the USA in 2013 while 271 coal mines were idled or shut down, according to the USA Energy Information Administration.

Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulations and cheap natural gas have devastating coal companies as well, even forcing Peabody Energy, the world's largest coal company, to declare bankruptcy earlier this month. Other American coal companies have faced financial problems too. Arch Coal filed for bankruptcy as well in January and coal companies like Alliance Coal announced mass layoffs. As a result, many ex-coal miners are unemployed and Appalachian "coal country" has faced very real economic devastation as a result. The coal-producing areas of eastern Kentucky have an unemployment rate of 8 percent unemployment rates and parts of West Virginia have double-digit unemployment. Even Obama has recognized the economic devastation, and stated that opposition to his policies by coal miners and people in Appalachia is "perfectly legitimate", during a December interview with National Public Radio. However, the situation for coal miners would likely get worse if Obama's Clean Power Plan is fully implemented. The EIA predicts the plan would more than double the number of coal plants shutting down over the next five years. The shutdowns have a cascading effect, causing coal production to collapse by more than 30 percent over the next decade. The Obama administration responded by offering a mere $14.5 million in federal funding for programs to retrain out-of-work coal miners, after imposing regulations that greatly hampered the American coal industry.

Biggest USA coal company funded dozens of groups questioning climate change, Guardian, June 13, 2016 (Analysis of Peabody Energy court documents show company backed trade groups, lobbyists and thinktanks dubbed 'heart and soul of climate denial'...)

Crusader in coal mine taking on Obama, NYTimes, May 1, 2016
...Mr Murray is also the architect of the most serious challenge to the Obama administration's environmental goals, particularly its policy on climate change. He has filed more than a half dozen lawsuits against the administration, including several challenging its landmark policy to curb greenhouse gas emissions from coal-fired power plants. In February, he scored a big victory when the Supreme Court temporarily blocked the administration's plan until an appeals court can consider an expedited challenge this summer. The expansion of its mining business at a time of deep industry disillusionment, coupled with an activist agenda, has made Murray Energy one of the leading forces combating environmental regulations. And it has made Mr. Murray a galvanizing champion of a once dominant industry fallen on hard times. For him, any attempt to regulate pollution from power plants is a plot not only to destroy coal producers in the United States but also to take control of the nation's electrical supply. He blames regulators in Washington intent on accumulating power and handpicking winners and losers. "What it is is a political power grab of America's power grid to change our country in a diabolical, if not evil, way", he says. "Thank you, Obama!" As the nation struggles to come to terms with greenhouse gas emissions, climate change and mining's environmental toll, Mr. Murray stands at the center of the economic, social and political debate. His life goal is to see that coal production in America remains vibrant -- even as his critics say he is waging a doomed, rear-guard battle against inevitability... "The coal industry is being destroyed", he says. "And it's scary to me because electricity is a staple of life -- like potatoes were to the Irish. And Obama has largely destroyed reliable, low-cost, affordable electricity in America"...

The fact is, coal's century-long dominance is ending. As recently as 2008, it accounted for more than 50 percent of electric power. But last year, that slipped to about 33 percent. And natural gas is expected to overtake coal as the single largest fuel for electricity production for the first time this year, according to the Energy Information Administration. One reason is fracking, which has pushed down gas prices. The other major coal killer is the adoption by the Obama administration of more stringent standards to regulate carbon emissions and other pollutants that contribute to climate change or are harmful to human health. These regulations have prompted utilities in recent years to shut more than 400 coal-fired plants that could not comply with the new rules or would be too costly to upgrade with pollution controls. Coal plants retired last year equaled the entire coal capacity of Britain, according to the Sierra Club. The impact on mining has been swift. Coal production in the United States peaked in 2008 at 1.17 billion tons. It has since fallen 24 percent to its lowest level in 30 years.... More than 40 producers have filed for bankruptcy protection in recent years, including some of the biggest. "The situation for coal in the United States is about as bad as it has ever been in modern history, and maybe even beyond that", says Mark Levin, an analyst with BB&T Capital Markets. "I don't think we're done". This is taking a toll on mine workers, whose numbers have shrunk by 19 percent in the last three years, to about 75,000. A typical miner earns $83,700 a year, according to the National Mining Association. For a laid-off worker with only a high school diploma, if that, that kind of pay is nearly impossible to find. "We're getting shelled", says Ryan Murray, the youngest of Mr Murray's three sons and the company's director of operations. "We have to fight back out of necessity". The company has opposed the Obama administration over a variety of new regulations...

Alberta carbon tax may create chaos for Edmonton school budgets
by Janet French, Edmonton Journal, Apr 26, 2016 ...Beginning Jan 1, 2017, the government will charge consumers $20 per tonne of carbon dioxide produced by the combustion of gasoline, diesel and natural gas. The levy translates into 4.5 cents per litre on gasoline, 5.4 cents per litre on diesel and about $1 per gigajoule of natural gas. Those rates rise again Jan 1, 2018. In 2017, filling the tanks of the 500 school buses that transport Edmonton public students daily would cost an extra $6,000 to $10,200, depending on the size of the diesel bus's tank. Administrators haven't yet determined the potential cost to the district. Kyle Ferguson, press secretary for Alberta's environment minister, said there are no exemptions from the carbon tax for school districts. Unlike lower-income consumers, the districts will not qualify for rebates, he said.... Heating public schools, however, will cost an estimated $630,000 more for the eight months the carbon tax would apply, said Todd Burnstad, acting managing director of finance for Edmonton Public Schools. Edmonton Catholic school board chairwoman Marilyn Bergstra said she's awaiting word from the education ministry on what financial help, if any, will be forthcoming. "I can see this play out in two ways. You could offset the costs through funding or you could exempt school boards. Those are the only two options", Bergstra said.

The great carbon boom, by Indur Goklany, National Post, Oct 13, 2015
On the eve of the UN climate summit in Paris, all delegates would be well advised to reflect on how the story of man-made global warming debate started. Svante Arrhenius, winner of the 1905 Nobel Prize, hypothesized over a century ago that increases in atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO2) due to fossil fuel consumption would warm the world. He also hypothesized that higher CO2 levels would stimulate plant growth. These, he reasoned, would reinforce each other and increase the biosphere's productivity to the benefit of mankind. Remarkably, proponents of the notion that global warming would be catastrophic unless CO2 emissions are curtailed drastically (or, in short, "warmists") embrace the first, but ignore the second hypothesis. "Remarkably", because both satellite and ground based data confirm that the biosphere's productivity has increased in managed ecosystems (eg, agriculture and managed forests) and in unmanaged or natural ecosystems. The plant-productivity increase has been steady, large and ubiquitous: widespread evidence confirms that the earth is greener; terrestrial ecosystems' productivity has increased 14% since 1982. Further, the IPCC estimates that the terrestrial biosphere productivity is 5% over pre-industrial times, that is, "carbon fertilization" due to rising CO2 levels has helped overcome any productivity loss from deforestation and other habitat loss. (Habitat loss is the greatest threat to terrestrial biodiversity and natural ecosystems). Carbon dioxide emissions over two centuries have produced massive benefits for humanity -- and nature. Halting emissions could increase hunger and habitat destruction...

RussiaNukesUSA Russia gains foothold in USA uraniam production, Financial Times, December 6, 2010
The Russians are coming. A Russian state-owned company will own almost half of USA uraniam production in the next few years. A partial takeover deal between AMRZ, the uraniam mining division of State-owned Rosaton and Toronto's Uraniam One controls mining operations in Wyoming, which would give AMRZ a footprint in the USA. Before the deal was struck, the Committee on Foreign Investment is the USA gave its approval. In addition the USA Nuclear Regulatory Commission also gave the go-ahead.
