To Orwell Today,
re: ORWELL LIVE AT GREENWICH
Here's the new version of Southwold Morning from the show and the other songs so far on YouTube. Hope you like them.
He Saw It at St Cyprians
We'll be putting the other songs on Youtube in the months ahead. Soon we are going to Southwold to make a documentary around a campaign for an Orwell statue in this country.
Thanks for sending the poems you've put to music toward your CABARET COMING UP FOR ORWELL production of "One Georgie Orwell". I'll keep posting the songs as they come in.
Keep me posted on how your trip to Southwold goes. I'd love to see your documentary on rousing interest in a statue of Orwell in England.
My particular preference, as revealed in a recent email exchange with a reader, is to have a life-size statue of Orwell standing on a pedestal (with engravings of his quotes etched into the stone) - and erected in Trafalgar Square for maximum exposure (and because he did write about sleeping in Trafalgar Square - in A Clergyman's Daughter -- and it's also the location of "Victory Square" in "1984"). The conversation was inspired by the recent theft of Orwell's face from the plaque in front of the "Booklover's Corner" bookstore in Hampstead where Orwell worked in 1936.
