To Orwell Today,

Dear Jackie Jura,

I was searching on internet for information about smart water meters and I just came to your website. Your website is very informing (I have seen a lot of dis-informing ones). Thank you very much for the information provided there.

Neptune (the company) has sent me a Final Notice installation for the smart meter. I called Neptune and asked if they can provide me with technical specifics about the device they want to install inside my home and if they can guarantee in writing that this device does not cause any health problems. The representative said "we probably can't provide you in writing". The rep also said "since this device has been approved it is a safe one". I was not convinced from the answers.

I don't know, sometimes it is easier to be or play stupid. I don't know. One thing that I know is that when I ask them for explanations they start dodging or start using the "muscle" language about regulations or laws etc.

I asked the rep if Neptune can install an analog meter and I was told to ask the City of Toronto for that. I thanked the rep and called the City. I asked the City of Toronto rep if an analog meter can be installed. The rep transferred my call to an answering system that belongs to one of city managers. In the message I was asked to leave my name and my phone number. I did so.

Do you know any other similar cases like mine? I'm somehow new in Toronto (emigrated from Europe in '97) and I'm not quite sure how the City of Toronto listens and responds to citizens concerns. I would really appreciate if you could send me some info how can I resolve this water smart meter thing with the City of Toronto or any other similar case that you might know.

I do apologize for taking your time with my problem but I feel like I am being ignored from the City of Toronto regarding this thing (they didn't ask me if I wanted a meter that uses radio waves or whatever). Anyway time will tell.

Sincerely,
Edmond

Greetings Edmond,

A reader wrote in recently from Toronto looking for other citizens concerned about smart water meters. See:

Erika says the Ontario Landowners Association has started a Toronto Chapter to help people solve smart water meter issues

I'll put you in contact with her.

All the best,
Jackie Jura
