To Orwell Today,
re: ORWELL'S LIFE ON JURA
Thank you for your Orwell page. What a rare treat to read of Orwell's life on Jura.
I am myself working on the life of a Jura man, the Rev John Mackechnie (1898-1977), who was a scholar of Gaelic languages and after whom the Gaelic manuscripts catalogue of the NLS is named.
He married Ellie Lucas, granddaughter of Kenneth Macdonald, the famed Town Clerk of Inverness.
I don't suppose there is any trace of those Mackechnies on Jura now?
Yrs aye,
David Anderson
Greetings David,
So glad you enjoyed reading about Orwell and his life on Jura, his "island in the Hebrides" where he wrote his masterpiece NINETEEN EIGHTY-FOUR.
All the best in your research on the Mackechnies,
Jackie Jura
