To Orwell Today,

Good day Ms. Jura,

Just a note of appreciation for your very well-written and "illustrated" page paying tribute to the life and works of George Orwell -- re: HOMAGE TO ORWELL

I happened upon your page after writing an article about the man behind '1984' for a Panamanian magazine and reading 'George Orwell: A Life in Letters', in which I discovered the address of his Canonbury flat. The quotidian details are really what make the account of your trip so enjoyable, especially the tidbits gleaned from conversations with local people you met along the way.

If possible, you should publish the contents of your website in a little walking guide that could be sold in the London tour shops, backpackers' hostels and such.

All the best to you in your pursuits.

Sincerely,
Caitlin Hammer

Greetings Caitlin,

Thanks so much for letting me know you enjoyed HOMAGE TO ORWELL -- especially the photos and stories about the visit to Orwell's flat at 27B CANONBURY SQUARE and 27B CANONBURY SQUARE PHOTOS and ORWELL'S LOCAL PUB

That North London visit was the most magical of all the Orwell places that day -- and in its way of all the other Orwell places I've been to since -- and there are many. I'll never forget being lost on the way from Canonbury Square to the pub and asking a tall thin man ambling toward us for directions -- it didn't dawn on me until later that he had a very strong resemblance to Orwell. Talk about talking to locals!

HomageBookletJJ

I did make HOMAGE TO ORWELL into a booklet and planned to do exactly as you suggest -- but time and distance separated the intent from the action.

All the best with your Orwell article for Panama,
Jackie Jura
