To Orwell Today,

Hi, Ms. Jura -

I have some questions for you. One of my English teachers who has assigned 1984 to a class of seniors came upon your website and was intrigued by the way you've set up your links to related stories. I wonder if you have a few minutes to tell me a little more about yourself and your website. For instance, is this a full-time pursuit, do you have any connection to funding sources, what do you do about dead links, and are you Canadian? (I know - the questions are a bit disjointed!). He'd like to use your site with his students, but would like a little more info before doing so. If you have time to answer, I'd appreciate it.

Polly Conlon,
Library Teacher

Greetings Ms Conlon,

Thank you for your interest in my site. I've written a bit of a bio which is located on the upper left hand corner of the home page which gives some information about myself. Yes, I am Canadian.

When a reader comes across a dead link they sometimes email letting me know and I occassionally (although not often enough) go through the themes checking for expired stories. Stories in capitals don't usually expire because they have a permanent address on or from my site. The archives section is a running tally of everything on the site.

Regarding funding sources you will see that there is no advertising on the site except for my own products, which at the moment are t-shirts, although in the future there will be other items offered from myself and others who create things I want to share with my readers. I wrote a book this summer entitled Homage to Orwell which is on-line but which I have also bound into a book which I intend to make available for people to purchase.

I consider my site a great resource for students of all ages because it brings Orwell's important work to them in an understandable way in that I've broken it into concepts and then applied those concepts to current events. "1984" is a very complex book full of important issues affecting the very existence of freedom and individuals. That's why I have made it such a big part of my life and put so much of my energy into spreading its message. The website is my contribution to truth and advancing the cause of freedom throughout the world.

If you have any further questions please don't hesitate to get back to me.
