By the way Jackie, I don't know if you speak any french but they just did a very well done segment on Enquete on Radio Canada which is the french equivalent of CBC Broadcasting.

My brother was on that show and Thursday he is being interviewed for another segment of the Fifth Estate. We have a meeting on May 20th with reporters, the Fifth Estate, etc. If you are in Montreal you are most welcome to attend.

This morning I watched the french version of The Fifth Estate program that you sent -- ie Enquete -- and I found the segments where your brother Allan Tanny is interviewed about your father Charles of whom there are photos. His story was not included in the english version but is inserted in several places in the french, ie starting near the 7-minute mark and then again around the 12-minute and then 19-minute marks.

A person doesn't need to speak french to understand as there are many sections in english and the medical reports by Cameron are in english and they are shocking. Your father sure did put up a fight against his torturers! And now his children, you and your brother, are carrying on the battle to seek justice for him and for your family and all the other families affected by this atrocity.

Thank you for inviting me to the Montreal meeting with reporters and the 5th Estate on May 20th. It would be very interesting to be there and meet you and the others but I live in Alberta so too far away.

Yes, I believe my brother was the only one interviewed for the french show -- the others were segments taken from the english version of the Fifth Estate.

We actually got a couple of new members to the group through that show. He is again being interviewed tomorrow (Thursday, April 19) by the Fifth Estate and 3 of us are also being interviewed by CTV News tomorrow. They say they will run it often leading up to the meeting hoping to attract more victims.

To get a real good picture of more details about the Canadian Government's behavior you can read this article. It talks about how they tried to derail the lawsuit against the CIA. It's a real eye-opener.

Mind-Control Part 1: Canadian and USA Survivors Seek Justice (a review of The Sleep Room, a four-hour miniseries about Dr Ewen Cameron's secret MK ULTRA brainwashing experiments in Montreal during the '50s and '60s, aired on CBC but blacked out in the USA). From the March-April 2000 issue of Probe.

Many years ago I read that series of articles from Probe magazine and it may have been where I first learned about the mind-control experiments perpetrated by the Canadian government and the CIA.

In a short promo for the 1998 made-for-TV movie THE SLEEP ROOM the 5th Estate interviewed the lawyers who represented the nine victims who successfully sued the CIA in 1988. Here are excerpts describing the disgraceful cover-up by the Canadian government:

...First she felt hurt but then she got angry and decided to sue one of the most powerful institutions in the world -- the CIA... Her distinquished American Civil Liberties lawyer and his young assistant knew they were up against a formidable opponent in the CIA but they thought the odds would be evened a bit by help from a natural ally. They were in for a disappointment. "We expected to have a very potent ally in the form of the Canadian government but unfortunately, instead of helping their own citizens the Canadian government (because it was worried about its possible liability) in effect stabbed its citizens in the back at every turn of the litigation. The Mulroney government actually helped to suppress a key piece of information -- evidence that CIA officials at the USA embassy had actually apologised to the Canadian government when the CIA experiments were first revealed..."

The movie underscores the impact of Ottawa's refusal to give lawyers details of the CIA apology... The lawyers eventually upped the ante on The Fifth Estate... With the publicity wave gathering momentum and the strength of the victims case becoming more apparent, the CIA caved in the day before the trial was to begin. They settled out of court for $750,000. At the time it was the largest settlement the CIA had ever awarded and it provides a dramatic finale for the movie... Producer Bernard Zuckerman says besides the financial terms this was a major moral victory. "Here you've got nine little Canadians taking on probably the most powerful institution in America -- the CIA. And these little Canadians win! They get the CIA to settle and give them money and in effect an apology saying 'What we did was wrong'". The movie ends with the CIA settlement but the story didn't end there. Troubling questions would persist, especially about the government of Canada.

The key take-away in that program, in my opinion, is that the publicity created by tbe Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) documentary and coverage by The Fifth Estate program helped influence the CIA to settle (out of court) with those nine courageous victims who persevered and refused to be victims any longer.

It's a good omen for success of your class action lawsuit against the Canadian government that The Fifth Estate is once again involved and doing all it can to get the word out on a massive scale to "we the people". The cover is being ripped off exposing the government's dastardly crime against its citizens who -- more than any other group the government has settled with (but equal to the Thalidomide babies and Hemophiliacs receiving bad blood) -- deserves an apology and compensation.

I had no idea you lived in Alberta! I don't know why I thought you lived here in Montreal. You did live here at one time, didn't you?

I want to thank you again for posting our issue. The group is thrilled and grateful. We are having our difficulties finding legal representation but while we are still struggling with that, we are determined to get this out into the public.

The meeting I'm sure will be amazing and I'm really excited about it. It's really too bad that you are so far away.

About the Allan, you know my father went in for facial pain. He was not a psychiatric patient. In the beginning they seemed to be helping him, but instead of being decent people by sending him home, what they did was unforgivable. You have no idea the issues I have lived with my entire life as a result of being the child he forgot he had. It's been a nightmare and a half. You know, one common link between all these patients is that not only did they come home obviously very damaged, but they also came home extremely aggressive verbally and physically.

We may never find a lawyer willing to go forward with this, but I and the others are determined to bring some dignity to my father's memory in spite of a government whose behavior has been beyond disgusting.

By the way, the French program brought us new people and so did the Fifth Estate. They have been just amazing for us.

Our meeting for the Braininwashing victims is this Sunday and people are coming from all over the country and we will have tons of press as well.... We have found legal representation for the class action suit and he is as passionate about this cause as we are. We are so thrilled.

I also had the sensation of being unable to move from the spot", Swiss chemist Albert Hoffmann wrote in his 1980 auto-biography LSD: My Problem Child. Hoffmann had just ridden his bike home from his lab after deliberately ingesting a small amount of a drug he had created to be used as a medicine. But he'd taken too much and Hoffmann experienced the first bad acid trip. He said it felt as if a demon had invaded him and taken possession of his body, mind and soul. "The substance, with which I had wanted to experiment, had vanquished me. It was the demon that scornfully triumphed over my will", he wrote. Later, Hoffmann's employer began producing the drug for psychiatrists to use in experiments. While they failed to discover any medical use for it, free samples for experminents were distributred widely. Hoffmann's hallucinogenic trip went on to inspire a counterculture of drug use -- and what happaned on April 19, 1943, became known (and celebrated) as Bicycle Day.

Prime Minister Brian Mulroney's wife Mila was born Milica Pivnicki to Serbian Orthodox parents Dimitrije "Mita" Pivnicki and Bogdanka Ilic in Sarajevo, PR Bosnia-Herzegovina, FPR Yugoslavia. Her first years were spent in the city of Sarajevo where her father was assigned to practice medicine by Yugoslav Titoist authorities. In 1956, Dr Pivnicki took a research fellowship position at the Allan Memorial Institute of Psychiatry in Montreal in order to circumvent the strict exit rules in Yugoslavia and get his family out of the country. While his pregnant wife Bogdanka waited to join him, she moved with young Milica back to their hometown of Novi Becej, Serbia. Finally, two years later, in 1958, she and their two children (five-year-old Milica and one-year-old Jovan) immigrated to Canada and joined Dimitrije in Montreal. Mila, the elder child, studied engineering at Concordia University, but did not graduate..... At age 19, she married Brian Mulroney, then a 34-year-old lawyer, on May 26, 1973....
