PENTAGON WARS

With the puppet leader of one of the nations of Oceania (Bush of the USA) allocating billions of tax dollars to the farcical STAR WARS system I was reminded of Orwell's explanation that:

"...Weapons of war are a convenient way of expending labour power without producing anything that can be consumed...It eats up the surplus of consumable goods, and it helps to preserve the special mental atmosphere that a hierarchical society needs."

On a grander scale the revived Missile Shield Plan won't be much different than the billions they wasted on developing the military device described in the movie:

THE PENTAGON WARS, HBO 1998, starring Kelsey Grammer

This movie was promoted as a comedy, and parts of it are hilarious, but the underlying theme is based on a true story which is un-funny.

It is worth renting the video not only for its Orwellian parallels about the role of the Military in wasting the energy of the economy but also because it describes the BRADLEY which is the tank the USA used in the Gulf War. Timothy McVeigh was the TOP GUNNER of the BRADLEY fleet in Iraq. Then in 1993, much to the shock of thinking observers, the USA government used the gun barrel of the BRADLEY to pump poisonous gas through the clap-trap walls of the Branch Davidian church in Waco, Texas, thus using the Military against its own citizens. ~ Jackie Jura

[quoting from the back of the video rental:]

Kelsey Grammer and Cary Elwes star in a movie based on the extraordinary true story of the outrageous lengths the Pentagon goes to defend our country...at any cost. For over 17 years - and almost as many billion dollars - military time, energy and lots and lots of cash have gone into devising THE BRADLEY FIGHTING VEHICLE. There's only one problem...it doesn't work. Now a new kid on the block, Colonel Burton (Elwes), has been assigned to oversee the BRADLEY'S development - and cover-ups. Rigged tests and altered documents are rising to the surface as fast as General Partridge (Grammer) can bury them. Burton discovers a monumental scandal that could break careers - which is why General Partridge will do everything in his power to keep a lid on it. And when these two opposing forces meet head-to-head in the Pentagon, you can be sure of one thing. It may get ugly, it may cost you a whole lot of tax dollars, but it will be very, very funny.
