These double standards applied against Prince Harry (an "ungoodthinkful" politically incorrect white male) are similar to the double standards that were applied to Sarah Palin (an "ungoodthinkful" politically incorrect white female) during the recent USA presidential election campaign.

It's not just about colour (because double standards are imposed on whites by all colours, including by whites themselves). Former Governor Sarah Palin (R-AK) punched her way back into the news this week by invoking slavery in remarks about American public debt, then doubling down on the remarks in an interview with CNN’s Jake Tapper. On Friday afternoon’s Martin Bashir program on MSNBC, host Martin Bashir delivered a scathing attack on Palin, while attempting to contextualize the horror of slavery for her by detailing some of the cruelty recorded in the diary of Thomas Thistlewood, a British overseer at a Jamaican sugar plantation. Bashir concluded his commentary by suggesting Palin is deserving of the same treatment. In his “Clear the Air” segment, Bashir lit into Palin straight away, referring to her as America’s “resident dunce” and characterizing her remarks as “scraping the barrel of her long-deceased mind, and using her all-time favorite analogy in an attempt to sound intelligent about the national debt.” He then played a clip of Palin’s comments from last weekend, in which she told a crowd at Iowa’s Faith and Freedom Coalition event, “Our free stuff today is being paid for by taking money from our children, and borrowing from China. When that note comes due — and this isn’t racist, so try it. Try it anyway. This isn’t racist. But it’s going to be like slavery when that note is due.” “It will be like slavery,” Bashir repeated. “Given her well-established reputation as a world class idiot, it’s hardly surprising that she should choose to mention slavery in a way that is abominable to anyone who knows anything about its barbaric history.” “So here’s an example,” Bashir continued. “One of the most comprehensive first-person accounts of slavery comes from the personal diary of a man called Thomas Thistlewood, who kept copious notes for 39 years. Add this to the long list of non tax paying cabinet members under Obama, and add that to the largest percentage of failed cabinet appointments by any modern president and I'd say that hope and change has been as successful as Mr. holder’s public speaking skills. Well, this is the guy your “Hope and Change” messiah appointed to the highest position of law in our nation. You decide how good Obama did with this choice.

Zeituni Onyango, a quiet 56-year-old Kenyan native, lived in total obscurity until a week ago when The Times of London reported that she was Obama’s aunt. She is the half-sister of Obama’s father, Barack Obama Sr. and is believed to be the “Aunti Zeituni” in Obama’s memoir, “Dreams From My Father.” Two women who know Onyango and live in the same housing complex off West Broadway said they hadn’t seen Onyango in four days - about the time it was revealed that she was living in the United States illegally. When asked how she felt having the president-elect’s aunt living next door, one neighbor, Sasha, who voted for Obama yesterday, replied: “I think it’s cool.” “The president’s family lives right there. That’s cool,” said Sasha, 28, who didn’t want to give her last name. Her friend, who also didn’t want to give her name and wore an Obama pin, described Onyango as a “very honest” woman, who talked fondly of her children and told stories about Kenya. “She has a lot of knowledge,” she said. No one answered the door at Onyango’s Boston Housing Authority apartment inside 111 Flaherty Way this morning. Onyango had previously shunned media attention and told reporters that she would give interviews after the election. Since then, though, the Associated Press has reported that in 2004 an immigration judge rejected her application for asylum and she was ordered to be deported. A BHA official told the Herald this weekend that the agency was never notified of a deportation order issued for Onyango, who has been living in federal-and state-funded public housing since 2003.

I can't believe the double-standard on the Sarah Palin hanging in California. If someone were to hang a dummy of Michelle or Barack Obama in a noose, it would automatically become a hate crime with Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson screaming on every media outlet possible. But when you hang a mannequin of Sarah Palin from a house, it's called a Halloween decoration with no hate or malice intended. Not everyone looks at a noose and associates it with slavery. All were obviously wrong, but I wish they were all treated equally by the media, as well as the law... that will never happen!

The U.S. Secret Service is being asked to review a sign a Bonner County landowner put up which suggests a "free public hanging" of President-elect Barack Obama and several other political figures. The handmade cardboard sign also features a noose fashioned from a length of nylon rope. "That's a political statement. They can call it whatever they want, a threat or whatever," said Ken Germana, who installed the sign on his property off Golden Gate Road in southwestern Bonner County. Obama's name is the most prominent on the sign, although it also bears the names of former Democrat presidential nominee John Kerry, current U.S. House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi and civil rights activist and former presidential candidate Al Sharpton. Sheriff Elaine Savage said she is referring the matter to the Secret Service, which is tasked with protecting the lives of presidents, presidential contenders and those who are in a presidential line of succession. "I'm sure they will be looking into it," Savage said on Wednesday. The Secret Service agent in Spokane, Wash., who was asked to review the situation was not immediately available for comment on Wednesday.

The Bonner County Human Rights Task Force said it is outraged by the display. "Everyone has the right of free speech, unless it advocates the killing or hurting of someone or incites violence, which violates the doctrine of human rights," Christine Holbert, president of the task force, said in a statement. Holbert called the sign "hateful" and said its content is not protected under the First Amendment. "I would not want to be in this man's shoes when the Secret Service interviews him," she added. Germana said he poses absolutely no threat to Obama, but admits he would not lose any sleep if harm did come the president-elect's way. He said he made the sign to protest hypocrisy in two high-profile incidents involving effigies of Republican vice president nominee Sarah Palin and Obama.

The Palin effigy was erected in Los Angeles and the Obama effigy was put up at the University of Kentucky campus in Lexington. Both incidents made headlines in the run-up to the general election, but Germana maintains they were treated differently by authorities and the press.

In Germana's view, nothing was done to the creators of the Palin effigy, while those who were involved with the Obama effigy were arrested. "If other people can make political statements, so can I. Just because I don't live in California doesn't mean I don't have my rights, too," he said. Germana calls any insinuation that there is a racial tone to his sign malarkey, emphasizing that its message is clearly equal opportunity. "If these Katzenjammer cops want to pursue it, God bless 'em. But I've got my rights just like everybody else does," he said.

Sarah Palin's attacks on Barack Obama's patriotism provoked a spike in death threats against the future president, Secret Service agents revealed during the final weeks of the campaign. The Republican vice presidential candidate attracted criticism for accusing Mr Obama of "palling around with terrorists", citing his association with the sixties radical William Ayers. The attacks provoked a near lynch mob atmosphere at her rallies, with supporters yelling "terrorist" and "kill him" until the McCain campaign ordered her to tone down the rhetoric. But it has now emerged that her demagogic tone may have unintentionally encouraged white supremacists to go even further.

The Secret Service warned the Obama family in mid October that they had seen a dramatic increase in the number of threats against the Democratic candidate, coinciding with Mrs Palin's attacks. Michelle Obama, the future First Lady, was so upset that she turned to her friend and campaign adviser Valerie Jarrett and said: "Why would they try to make people hate us?" The revelations, contained in a Newsweek history of the campaign, are likely to further damage Mrs Palin's credentials as a future presidential candidate. She is already a frontrunner, with Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal, to take on Mr Obama in four years time. Details of the spike in threats to Mr Obama come as a report last week by security and intelligence analysts Stratfor, warned that he is a high risk target for racist gunmen. It concluded: "Two plots to assassinate Obama were broken up during the campaign season, and several more remain under investigation. We would expect federal authorities to uncover many more plots to attack the president that have been hatched by white supremacist ideologues."

Irate John McCain aides, who blame Mrs Palin for losing the election, claim Mrs Palin took it upon herself to question Mr Obama's patriotism, before the line of attack had been cleared by Mr McCain. That claim is part of a campaign of targeted leaks designed to torpedo her ambitions, with claims that she did not know that Africa was a continent rather than a country. The advisers have branded her a "diva" and a "whack job" and claimed that she did not know which other countries are in the North American Free Trade Area, (Canada and Mexico). They say she spent more than $150,000 on designer clothes, including $40,000 on her husband Todd and that she refused to prepare for the disastrous series of interviews with CBS's Katie Couric.

In a bid to salvage her reputation Mrs Palin came out firing in an interview with CNN, dismissing the anonymous leakers in unpresidential language as "jerks" who had taken "questions or comments I made in debate prep out of context." She said: "I consider it cowardly. It's not true. That's cruel, it's mean-spirited, it's immature, it's unprofessional and those guys are jerks if they came away taking things out of context and then tried to spread something on national news that's not fair and not right." She was not asked about her incendiary rhetoric against Mr Obama. But she did deny the spending spree claims, saying the clothes in question had been returned to the Republican National Committee. "Those are the RNC's clothes, they're not my clothes. I didn't ask for anything more than maybe a diet Dr Pepper once in a while. These are false allegations." Speaking as she returned to her native Alaska, Mrs Palin claimed to be baffled by what she claims was sexism on the national stage. "Here in Alaska that double standard isn't applied because these guys know that Alaskan women are pretty tough, on a par with the men in terms of being outdoors, working hard," she said. "They're commercial fishermen, they're pilots, they're working up on the North slopein the oil fields. You see equality in Alaska. I think that was a bit of as surprise on the national level."

The October 30, 2008 Halloween issue of a New York news magazine is raising some eyebrows as its cover depicts a smiling Barack Obama as a vampire carrying a scantily clad Sarah Palin who has been pierced with a spike through her heart. The image also displays a giant cross emanating from the wound in "Palin's" chest. "Can you imagine conservatives trying to do anything like this?" asked Bill Dudek of Albany, New York. Metroland, a free publication billing itself as the alternative newsweekly of New York's capital region, says it reaches 100,000-plus residents with "in-depth reporting of regional and national news and politics, provocative commentary" and "a strong commitment to editorial and graphic excellence," according to its website. John Bracchi, Metroland's art director, told WND the cover was a last-minute project that was rushed to meet the publishing deadline. "I was just trying to combine Halloween with politics and do it as quickly as possible," he said. "I took it off an old, obscure poster that I'd seen." Bracchi indicated people either loved or hated the image, with some even stating it was Metroland's best cover. He says negative e-mails had a common theme of, "If you think this is funny, you have a warped mind, you're racist and sexist." Regarding any desire to portray either Obama or Palin in a negative light, Bracchi said, "There was no intention other than just to create a visual and to get us out of a [deadline] jam. We didn't want to make anyone look bad or painstakingly go over ideas." When asked if Metroland had any particular political slant, he said, "I would say we definitely lean liberal."

I was shocked to see the Reuters photo (with the caption "Halloween hijinks") in the Oct. 29 edition of The Japan Times, showing U.S. Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin hanging by the neck in effigy from the roof of a house in California as a Halloween decoration. I assume the effigy itself, and the running of the photo, was meant to be a satirical comment on the U.S. presidential election race. If not, why else would one consider it newsworthy? But can you imagine the outcry if the effigy had been of Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama? Would The Japan Times -- or any other mainstream media outlet -- have run the picture if it had been of Obama's effigy? I think not. If Obama were hanged in effigy, there would be a public uproar from all sides of the political spectrum, and the FBI would be investigating it as a hate crime. Can anyone question whether there has been a double standard at work during this electoral season?

A University of Kentucky student and another man have been arrested, accused of hanging a life-sized likeness of Barack Obama from a tree on the campus. The incident was one of several in recent weeks involving effigies of the presidential candidates or their running mates. No charges have been filed in four other cases that have made national headlines. Campus interim police chief Joe Monroe said the men "expressed remorse for a stunt that had gotten out of hand". Arrested were Joe Fischer, 22, a student, and Hunter Bush, 21, both of Lexington. They were being held at Fayette County Detention Centre on charges of disorderly conduct related to the hanging of the effigy, and were also charged with burglary and theft at a fraternity house where police said the materials came from. Lieutenant Tina Strange, a deputy jailer at the detention centre, said they were each being held on $7,600 bond. Monroe said the two men told detectives they decided to hang the effigy after seeing media reports about a Sarah Palin effigy in California. Witnesses who saw the effigy said it was life-sized with an Obama Halloween mask, a suit jacket and sweat pants. It was found hanging from a tree with a noose around its neck.

University president Lee Todd said the effigy violates the university's code of ethics, and Fischer faces punishment that could include expulsion. "As outrageous and offensive an act as the effigy was, I truly believe it has mobilised our campus, the community and the state in an effort to battle racism," Todd said. It was the second time in about a month such an effigy was found on a college campus. George Fox University, a small Christian college in Oregon, recently punished four students who confessed to hanging a likeness of Obama from a tree. Meanwhile, a Redondo Beach, California, woman removed a Halloween effigy of Barack Obama that was hanging from her balcony with a butcher knife in its neck. She took it down Thursday after neighbours complained. In West Hollywood, California, a man removed an effigy of Republican vice-presidential nominee Sarah Palin from his yard after several weeks of complaints. In Clarksville, Indiana, a man had hanged an inflatable doll made to look like Obama from a tree. He took it down, and authorities said it didn't appear to violate any state laws.

West Hollywood, Calif. - A Halloween themed effigy has generated several complaints because a mannequin — dressed in vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin's trademark updo, glasses and a red business suit — is hanging by the neck from a noose. Some concerned callers complained that the display was a hate crime. However, the department's hate crime unit said "it does not rise to the level of a hate crime. In fact, there is no crime being committed at this point," Los Angeles County sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitmore said. The home also has an effigy of Republican presidential candidate, Sen. John McCain, popping out of a chimney surrounded by fake flames. Chad Michael Morisette, who lives in the house, said drivers and bus passengers have been stopping to snap pictures of the macabre scene. Morisette said if the noose scene had featured Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama, there might have been more outrage and maybe even vandalism to the home. "The image of a hanged black man is a lot more intense than the image of a hanged white woman, for our country and the history of our country," Morisette told KCBS-TV.
