To Orwell Today,
re: HOMAGE TO ORWELL & PILGRIMAGE TO ORWELL
I'm just writing to tell you how much I enjoy your site about George Orwell. I especially love the Pilgrimage parts, to Jura and The Stores.
I have been a fan of Orwell since about 1999. It's too bad you didn't get photos from inside the cottage in Wallington, but privacy is important to those currently living there.
Thanks for letting me know you're enjoying ORWELL TODAY - a labour of love I created in 2000 and which made its debut on the world wide web in 2001.
In all these years of my Orwell journey, the biggest thrill was visiting Orwell's homes in Wallington, London and Jura - mainly because aspects of each of them are recognizable in his masterpieces, ANIMAL FARM and NINETEEN EIGHTY-FOUR. See VISITING ORWELL'S WALLINGTON HOUSE & 27B CANONBURY SQUARE PHOTOS & VISITING ORWELL'S BARNHILL
I will always be grateful to the present owners of Orwell's homes for their generosity of spirit for welcoming us in and giving permission to share the photos with ORWELL TODAY readers.
As a token of my appreciation I sent each of them, at the time, hard-copies (scanned above) of the books I compiled from the virtual versions posted on the website. Also, I wanted to atone for any inconvenience they may have subsequently experienced from perhaps hundreds of ORWELL TODAY readers following in my footsteps and knocking on their doors as I did.
All the best,
