To Orwell Today,
re: SHRINE TO ORWELL
Dear Jackie Jura,
My wife and I will be attempting to reach Motihari in March next year when we are in India.
Would it be possible to put me in touch with any of the contacts there who may be able to help find the bungalow once we are there? - some of the correspondents who have either contributed to the website or have been mentioned in the articles: Nasir Abid, for example, or Debapriya Mookherjee. I have tried to email Dr. Anita Gupta, using the email address in the article "Orwell Motihari Museum Progress" - firstname.lastname@example.org, but the message could not be delivered. Is that the correct address? Do you have another I could try?
NB. I am a retired teacher of English Literature and a great admirer of Orwell's works, and would be happy to take out photocopies of photographs, bookcovers etc. for the museum, if there would be a genuine use for them. In addition, would your website be interested in photographs I have of the house in which Orwell lived when he was a "down-and-out" in Paris, and of the cafe on whose roof he was stationed when in Barcelona?
That is wonderful news that you will be making an Orwell pilgrimage to Motihari!
It's been ages since I've heard from Nasir but I'll dig out his email address and forward him your email so you can get in touch. You're like an answer to his prayers and I'm sure your contributions to the Museum will be greatly appreciated. If progress has stalled at this point then perhaps your visit will breathe new life into the project.
And yes - doubleplusyes -"Orwell Today" would be very interested in seeing your photos of Orwell's down-and-out house in Paris and the cafe under his roof in Barcelona. Please send them along with a story telling us all about them at your earliest convenience.
All the best,
PS - And of course we readers are waiting in rapt anticipation to hear about your visit to the place of Orwell's birth and see the photos you take there too.
