To Orwell Today,

Hello there!

I am trying to find a letter/essay that Diana's Mother wrote shortly after her death.

It was a beautiful piece - she said something like "I give Diana back into the arms of God....."

Are you able to help me? Thank you for any assistance.

Cheers,
Vicki da Silva

Greetings Vicki,

No, I am sorry but I have never heard of it but maybe a reader has and will write in with the details.

One thing that sticks out in my mind about Diana's mother was how upset she was that she hadn't been allowed to see Diana's body after she died. Also, she made the comment that Diana had been "betrayed by so many people".

Another really sad thing for Diana's mother was that she and Diana hadn't spoken to each other in the six months prior to the car crash in Paris because they'd had a huge fight over the telephone. She tried to make up in letters she sent to Diana at Kensington Palace (from her island in the Scottish Hebrides where she lived alone) but Diana was so hurt and angry she wouldn't open them.

Diana's mother appeared in court in November 2002 against Diana's "rock", which surprised the butler, Paul Burrell, as she had previously been good to him. After the Queen intervened and the case against him collapsed Diana's mother went back to her Scottish island and was never seen in public again. She died in June 2004.

All the best,

DIANA BETRAYED BY SO MANY and GOODNIGHT SWEET PRINCESS and VISITING PRINCESS'S PLACES

Dear Vicki,

In response to your question a reader wrote saying Diana's mother's letter is entitled "I Thank God for the Gift of Diana" and that helped me locate it on the web.

All the best,
Jackie Jura

To Orwell Today,

Thank you very much for that Jackie!

Cheers,
Vicki
