ORWELL'S OTHER BOOKS
I have finished reading all of Orwell's books in the order in which he wrote them. This section of Orwell Today contains excerpts and will be added to as time goes by. ~ Jackie Jura
1st book, DOWN AND OUT IN PARIS AND LONDON, 1933
2nd book, BURMESE DAYS, 1934
3rd book, A CLERGYMAN'S DAUGHTER, 1935
4th book, KEEP THE ASPIDISTRA FLYING, 1936
5th book, THE ROAD TO WIGAN PIER, 1937
6th book, HOMAGE TO CATALONIA, 1938
7th book, COMING UP FOR AIR, 1939
8th book, ANIMAL FARM, 1945
9th book, NINETEEN EIGHTY-FOUR, 1949
I recently acquired (this past February 2005) a first edition, four-volume set of:
THE COLLECTED ESSAYS, JOURNALISM AND LETTERS OF GEORGE ORWELL, edited by Sonia Orwell and Ian Angus, 1968:
The four volumes are comprised of:
Volume 1 - An Age Like This (1920-1940)
Volume 2 - My Country Right or Left (1940-1943)
Volume 3 - As I Please (1943-1945)
Volume 4 - In Front of Your Nose (1945-1950)
The four volumes are a welcome addtion to a first-edition book I've owned since 1993, and which fueled my appreciation of George Orwell, containing as it does fantastic excerpts from his major writings:
THE ORWELL READER, FICTION, ESSAYS, AND REPORTAGE BY GEORGE ORWELL, with an introduction by Richared H. Rovere, 1956
RECOMMENDED READING ON ORWELL, by Jackie Jura
