To Orwell Today,
I came across your website after ‘Googling’ George Orwell and found it very interesting.
I am helping my neighbour sort out the estate of his Father who died last weekend. His father was a sportswriter, and worked with many famous sports people to ‘ghost’ write part of books. Amongst the large collection of books and correspondence is a letter signed by George Orwell.
I have catalogued part of his collection as three auction houses are “very excited” about selling his book collection dating back to the 1890s. I am due to start work on cataloging the next batch including the George Orwell letter tomorrow.
Is this letter something that you might be interested in purchasing as it falls outside the scope of a Sports memorabilia auction. If you aren’t interested, do you know anyone who might be?
If you are interested I could photograph it and e-mail a copy to you.
Thank you very much for contacting me regarding your exciting discovery of a letter signed by George Orwell.
But as much as I would like to see it, and show it to Orwell's millions of worldwide fans, I'm not in a position to acquire such memorabilia, nor have I any idea of its financial value.
However, there may be readers of "Orwell Today" who can advise you on your options and so I'll share your email with them.
I wonder if you would tell us what the letter says. Maybe that would inspire greater interest and a buyer may come forward.
All the best,
